Jerry Hill’s Dirty 30 CrossFit Workout

This is another high intensity interval strength training workout that produces dramatic results when attacked with an “all in” attitude. It takes a lot of power, endurance, and mental toughness to gut through it in record time.

Silver Star

I was putting my 5-Year old daughter down to sleep tonight and we exchange some stories about the people we love and why.  We went through all our family members, it was fun.

Then she asked me what I liked about a certain superhero I often spun into her bedtime stories; I have made this super hero up and the character has been a fun adventure for my daughters who are more often in a land of Made-up Princesses and Barbies…so…I instantly replied; “I like her creativity, bravery, and loyalty.” (hey it’s my super hero so it was an easy answer).  A short discussion followed then it was lights out…

I went downstairs and caught up on some news only to find out I have a real live Hero to tell her about tomorrow:

“Dodging insurgent gunfire, a 19-year-old Lake Jackson soldier used her body to shield five injured comrades after a roadside bomb struck her convoy in Afghanistan last spring. That act of bravery has earned Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown the Silver Star.”

Teeth Grinder

Apparently after 41 years I’ve become a teeth grinder…Last December while gutting through a moderately heavy and high intensity workout I gave myself a monster headache…it lasted 2 weeks! Now I admit a well-adjusted normal person would have gone to the doctors…but to heck with normal plus that’s what Google is for right?

I searched “Exertion Headaches”…some symptoms, no real answers…

Due to this headache syndrome on that day back in December I haven’t been able to hit my normal intensity during workouts.  So for the past few months I backed off and worked on some other things.  It’s been fun, but frustration kicked in and I ratcheted up the intensity this past Monday…Wham another non-stop headache.

It’s easy to be hard, it’s hard to be smart…

On the second day of this headache an anvil dropped from the sky and hit me on the head (good thing I’m hard-headed) I suddenly remembered the conversation I had with my dentist only last week…

Doc: “‘You’re a pretty strong gripper, I see teeth grinding, I want you to wear a mouthpiece during your workouts.”

Me: “No F’in’ way”

Doc: (nervous chuckle) OK…Do you have headaches, jaw pain, (and a list of other symptoms)?

Me: “No F’in way”

Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt…

I couldn’t even think about the headaches, all I could think about was wearing a silly mouthguard.

Well on Monday, I gave myself a headache, on Tuesday the Anvil hit and I finally put 2 and 2 together…I instantly went out and bought a mouth guard.

The result?

Chomping on a mouthguard I’ve had some of my best workouts in months.

Gotta call the Doc and apologize…

Happiness

“Prescription-drug ads prompt nearly one-third of Americans to ask their doctors about an advertised medicine, and 82% of those who ask say their physicians recommended a prescription.”

“The findings in a national survey by USA TODAY, the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health come as drug advertising hit a record $4.8 billion in 2006, up from $2.6 billion in 2002.”

I’m not going to debate Big Pharma…they help a lot of people in legitimate need of help.

Unfortunately their 5 billion dollar marketing campaign also leads a lot of good people on a downward spiral and removes alternative choices.  So, the big question that eats away at me is; Does Big Pharma’s marketing successes weaken the character of our Nation?

A leap?

Look, I’m all for easing people’s pain but where is the threshold? Have we mutated and morphed the scale of discomfort to include everyone as candidates for pharmaceutical assistance?  Is Big Pharma pushing quick-fix dependency to a whole new level?

What of character, determination and choice?

If drugs can help someone who is miserable suffer less then can they help someone who is simply OK feel great?

Does the Pharma promise of happiness rob some who could find a more lasting, more meaningful path?

I don’t have any concrete answers, only questions that push me to formulate new ideas on how to help others achieve a life of success and happiness.

In Strength,
Jerry

New Information Offered for Those Who Need to Get in Top Shape in Record Time

I am really happy on how this interview series turned out!  I got great input from 5 different coaches all with unique backgrounds and contributions to the CrossFit community.  I uploaded all of the interviews to one easy location and sent out a press release:

New Information Offered for Those Who Need to Get in Top Shape in Record Time

Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) — Local Fitness Expert Jerry Hill recently interviewed several of the top coaches in the fitness industry and asked them this key question; “If your athletes life depended on getting in top-shape in record time what would be the most important thing you would do?” and in doing so has compiled what is arguably the most complete, concise and result-producing fitness resource ever available.

The audio series was originally intended for military personnel facing upcoming deployment to the physically demanding environments of Iraq and Afghanistan where high-level fitness is crucial for survival, yet the information is also applicable to athletes before a competition, or anyone who wants optimal performance from their body in record time.

Hill, a former United States Marine and head conditioning coach at CrossFit Old Town in Alexandria, VA interviewed a combat conditioning expert, a strength coach who has authored 3 books, a former US Navy SEAL Team member, a nutritional performance coach, and an Olympic weightlifting coach in search of the answer to his question.

Hill states; “Most of us are on information overload, I wanted to get the best tip from top coaches in order to make an immediate impact on an athletes life.”

Athletes will learn; how a few weeks of detailed planning can change their entire life, the best movements to improve overall strength, why intensity can be the final factor, how to break through mentally and physically, and why you must evaluate your individual needs and train accordingly.

For anyone who depends on the performance of their body for work or whose level of fitness could mean a matter of life or death this interview series is for them. Hill, who has over 22 years of experience in the fitness industry is offering this interview series for free on his website; CrossFit Old Town
