I’m doing a series of hard-hitting quick-tip audio interviews with no-nonsense in the trenches CrossFit Coaches. The question I ask is simple and bound to make an impact in how you approach your training;
“If your athletes life depended on getting in top-shape in record time what would be the most important thing you would do?”

Today I talked with Jason C. Brown from
Jason is a Former Marine, and current Strength and Conditioning Coach for Philly’s largest BJJ Academy

Help — I can’t get the interview to play!
I loved all the comments about training 2 on and 1 off, haveing your nutrition on point and the chaos really hit home.
For my clients, I do something like that interval training but have to reign it in for my everyday joe clients that are used to 10 or 12 reps and then resting for 5 or more minutes. So I love to mix it up just like you do regarding crossfit … and boxing. So I really enjoyed the comments … good work
Hey Jerry,
In the interview, Jason said he likes to start his athletes on a 3 min work – 3 min rest cycle, with 1 min kb swing, 1 min pull up, 1 min row.
How about posting a workout based on this principle?
Hey Leslie,
You might have to hit the button twice; once to activate it then once to play. The recording kicks in after a initial 10 sec delay.
Njama, glad you enjoyed Jason’s input; I too thought there were some great take-aways!
Matt, will do brother!
Great interview!
Always great to hear from the Marines
The insights on incomplete recovery and training in chaos were excellent.
Jerry – Thank you for the posting. In fact, thank you for all of the solid content you make available on your site and through You Tube. I’m a middle aged guy who was going nowhere with traditional gym workouts. When I discovered full-body functional exercising about a year ago and started doing it, people at the gym looked at me like I was nuts. Now the word is spreading across the land, and for many of us in areas where Crossfit and combat training are just getting on their legs, the Internet is providing some very valuable information if you know where to look. Luckily, I came upon your site through the Crossfit site early in my quest for information.
As for Jason’s audio – Very informative. Jason has some great ideas even for everyday people who want to get and stay fit.
As a general comment, your postings are always well thought out. And it is so great that your audio and video quality is good, and that I can hear what you are saying without the distraction of loud music. Maybe that’s the middle aged guy in me, but it is nice to hear what you have to say the first time I hear it! One note – and take this with a grain of salt since I make a living as a TV producer/director – I understand the limitations of shooting vids from a locked off tripod…but when showing fundamental movements, stances and routines, some close up and/or medium close-ups of grip/hand placement, stance/feet/knees/hips, posture/back/shoulders would make your great videos more than excellent.
Thanks again, Jerry. You;’re doing a great service.
Thanks for the info. I was viewing in Camino, and the play button doesn’t show up there. When I brought it up in Safari, it worked great.
I WILL TRY TO MAKE SURE HE HAS A GOOD DIET & REST AND MAKE SURE HE BE ABLE TO REACH HIS MAXIMIUM IN EXPLOSIVE EXERSICE.
I think about what my life would be like without crossfit. Since starting crossfit, I have dug up strenght I never knew I had. If my life depended on being in top-shape in record time, I would definitely work on endurance. A commitment to continue practicing to reach the other level to be able to physically outrun or overcome the unexpected. So yes, I would definitely work on endurance.
Thanks for the video tips Tim!
Also for the solid feedback everyone…glad this helped.
